Best electric bikes in Australia

There is no single best e-bike — there is the right one for the way you ride, at a price you can justify, that is legal where you want to ride it. This hub is the map: pick a bike type or a use case, and each guide compares the models Australians can actually buy here.

How we make money: we link to retailers so you can check current prices. We have no confirmed affiliate or commission relationship with any retailer yet, so nothing on this page is a paid placement. Read the full disclosure.

Full comparison guides

These guides compare a researched field of models side by side, with specs, prices and legal status for each.

Buying guides in progress

We publish these as buying guides — what decides the choice in each category, and the models we have verified so far. They will become full comparisons as we confirm more Australian sellers and specifications. We would rather tell you that than pad a page with models we cannot source here.

Frequently asked questions

What makes an electric bike road legal in Australia?

A motor rated at 250W continuous, pedal assist that cuts out at 25 km/h, and a throttle limited to 6 km/h walk mode. Bikes above that are private-property only — with one live exception: New South Wales currently allows 500W, dropping to 250W on 1 March 2029. Some states also add their own certification requirements.

How much should I spend on an e-bike in Australia?

The bikes with confirmed Australian sellers in our guides start around $1,375 and run past $5,000. Below roughly $1,500 the compromises usually show up in the battery cells and the brakes rather than the motor.

Do you test the bikes yourselves?

No. Our guides are research-based: we compare published manufacturer and retailer specifications and check road-legal status against Australian rules. We label every page that way and never describe a ride we have not taken.

How current are the prices on this site?

Every price carries the date we checked it. Across the site that check was made on 2026-08-15. Retail prices move, so treat ours as the starting point and confirm at the shop.
